Students ages under 18


Primary School Ages 5-12

This is for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Students who study the Australian National curriculum are assessed regularly with NAPLAN (The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy).

At this stage of schooling, the education tries to ensure a passion for learning is developed with high-quality education. Students will feel safe and being supported when they come to school.

In Tasmania, international students can choose between government schools and independent schools.

Secondary School Ages 12-16

This is for students from year 7 to year 10.

Secondary school follows the Australian National Curriculum- a curriculum based on 8 key areas including English, Mathematics, Science, Health and Physical Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, The Arts, Technologies and Languages.

In Tasmania, international students can choose between government schools and independent schools.

Senior Secondary or College Ages 16-18

This is for students interested in studying year 11 to year 12.

The aim of senior secondary and college is to provide a range of subjects that prepare students for their tertiary studies working towards a TCE (Tasmanian certificate of education).

Most follow the Australian curriculum that prepare students for higher education, based over subject areas including English, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography. Colleges also offer some vocational subjects.

In Tasmania, international students can choose between government schools and independent schools. Some independent schools also offer International Baccalaureate programmes.

Tasmania has both government and private vocational educational institutions to provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to succeed in your global career.

TasTAFE

TasTAFE is Tasmania’s leading vocational institution and one of the 10 largest registered training organisations in Australia. TasTAFE delivers over 200 nationally accredited vocational education qualifications across 16 specialised campuses spread throughout Tasmania.

Private Registered Training Organisations

Tasmania also has many Registered Training Organisations if you are interested in vocational studies. They provide the opportunity to study many courses and offer both certificates and diplomas.
