Students aged under 18

Primary School Ages 5–12
This is for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Students who study the Australian National Curriculum are assessed regularly with NAPLAN (The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy).
At this stage of schooling, the education system aims to ensure a passion for learning is developed through high-quality teaching. Students feel safe and supported when they come to school.
In Tasmania, international students can choose between government schools and independent schools.
Secondary School Ages 12–16
This is for students from Year 7 to Year 10.
Secondary school follows the Australian National Curriculum – a curriculum based on eight key areas including English, Mathematics, Science, Health and Physical Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, The Arts, Technologies, and Languages.
In Tasmania, international students can choose between government schools and independent schools.

Senior Secondary or College Ages 16–18
This is for students interested in studying Year 11 to Year 12.
The aim of senior secondary and college is to provide a range of subjects that prepare students for tertiary studies and help them work toward the TCE (Tasmanian Certificate of Education).
Most follow the Australian Curriculum, with subject areas including English, Mathematics, Science, History, and Geography. Colleges also offer vocational subjects.
In Tasmania, international students can choose between government schools and independent schools. Some independent schools also offer International Baccalaureate programmes.

University

TasTAFE
TasTAFE is Tasmania’s leading vocational institution and one of the 10 largest registered training organisations in Australia. TasTAFE delivers over 200 nationally accredited vocational education qualifications across 16 specialised campuses spread throughout Tasmania.
Private Registered Training Organisations
Tasmania also has many Registered Training Organisations if you are interested in vocational studies. They provide the opportunity to study many courses and offer both certificates and diplomas.

Learn English Through Vocational Training
TasTAFE English Centre
The two English Language Programs at TasTAFE offer English courses for students with a range of English levels – from beginner to intermediate.
The experienced, friendly teachers will work with you on your English listening, reading, writing and speaking skills in interactive classes. TasTAFE will tailor your course to what you are interested in, or the area that you are studying, choosing relevant topics for conversation and expanding your vocabulary.

- English Language Program – General (ELICOS) This course will provide you with the English confidence in reading writing, communicating and help you with your daily life in English.
- English Language Program – Academic (ELICOS) On successful completion, this course will prepare you for direct entry into a TasTAFE Certificate or Diploma.

- The Tasmanian College of English
The Tasmanian College of English is an independent College based in Tasmania. Being a small to medium sized college their focus is on developing English in all areas (vocabulary, speaking, listening, reading, writing) and developing English skills for real life situations.

University scholarships
If you are interested in studying at university level in Tasmania, the University of Tasmania International Scholarship program has a great range for international students. It can provide a huge help with the cost of tuition and living.
Tasmanian International Scholarship
The Tasmanian International Scholarship (TIS) is available for most undergraduate and postgraduate coursework programs. This provides students with a 25 per cent reduction in registered tuition fees for the duration of their course.
