About the Program

The International Student Ambassador Program is a volunteer opportunity for international students to represent Study Tasmania, support fellow international students and promote Tasmania as study destination.

Benefits of becoming an Ambassador

• Valuable skills beyond your academic studies, including confidence building, communication, collaboration and leadership.
• Access to mentoring and networking opportunities.
• Contribute to activities that enhance the experience of international students in Tasmania.
• Opportunities to participate in student activities and personal development workshops.

Expectation of an Ambassador

• Maintain at least 70% attendance at scheduled activities or events.
• Actively share their experiences in Tasmania with their respective networks.
• Actively share their experiences in Tasmania on their social media.
• Participate in video and photography projects that showcase student life in Tasmania.

Volunteer time commitments

• On average, one event per month during the year, depending on the student’s availability and interest.
• Proposed activities (subject to change) include:
  • Program Induction: End of 2025
  • Monthly Group Meetings: Throughout 2026
  • Professional Development Workshops: February, July and September 2026
  • Orientation Week Activities: February and July 2026
  • End of Year Event: December 2026
• Each activity typically lasts 1 to 2 hours, except for the professional development workshops, which may be longer.

Location

• Events will generally be held in and around Hobart or Launceston.

What we look for in Ambassadors

• A willingness to actively engage with the community.
• Interest in promoting international relations and Tasmania as a study destination.
• Confidence in public speaking.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Reliability and punctuality.
• Understanding of challenges faced by the international students and peer networks.

Eligibility:

• Must be over 18 years of age.
• Must be an international student enrolled in a Tasmanian institute until December of the program year.
• Must have lived and studied in Tasmania for at least six months prior to joining the program.

Applications

Applications for the 2027 Study Tasmania Student Ambassador Program will open in September 2026.
