2025 Tasmanian International Education Awards Recipients
As part of the celebration, we honoured individuals who have made an outstanding contribution of individuals through the Tasmanian International Education Awards. We’re excited to announce our 2025 award winners:
International Student of the Year – University: Vaness Yap
Vaness impressed the judging panel with her outstanding leadership in elevating Tasmanian international student representation at the national level. Her dedication to the international student community shrines through her work in welfare initiatives and flagship events, all while managing the demands of a rigorous medical degree.
International Student of the Year – Vocational Education and Training: Yuanyuan Mei
Yuanyuan’s has made a significant impact by fostering cross-cultural understanding through your part-time work, enriching Tasmania’s international community. Her continued advocacy for workers’ rights at TasTAFE reflects a deep commitment to creating an inclusive and fair environment for all.
International Student of the Year – Schools and Secondary College: Alice Han
Alice stands out as a true advocate and role model for international students in Tasmania. Her extensive volunteer work, creative initiatives and unwavering support for peers earned her the highest overall score from the panel.
International Student Alumni of the Year: Ushani Prabuddhika Madagedara
Ushani has cultivated a workplace culture that celebrates inclusion and multicultural awareness.
Beyond her professional achievements, her cultural dance performances embody harmony and showcase Tasmania as a welcoming, diverse and inclusive state.
International Student Support Award: Jessica Zuniga
Jessica has gone above and beyond the role as an education agent, introducing programs that create an authentic “home away from home” experience for international students.
Her work has been instrumental in helping students establish long-term pathways in Tasmania, ensuring they feel supported every step of the way.
International Student Employer of the Year: TasWater
TasWater is committed to empowering international student graduates through a structured development program that includes nationwide leadership training, an Aboriginal Cultural Awareness workshop and a buddy program designed to provide guidance and belonging from day one.
