International Student Ambassadors for 2024

Vaness Yap

I’m Vaness, I’m currently delving into my second year of an exhilarating academic pursuit—chasing a Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine. Originating proudly from Malaysia, my educational journey took me through a few years in Sydney, yet it was Tasmania that truly stole my heart. Tasmania's captivating landscapes swiftly transformed her perception of studying medicine, infusing it with an adventurous spirit she hadn't experienced before (Mount Wellington and the harbour views are simply mesmerising!).

As an international student, I intimately understand the challenges of arriving in Hobart for the first time. The overwhelming support and warm embrace extended by the University of Tasmania and Hobart community touched me deeply, creating a sense of belonging akin to finding a second family. The overwhelming support I received has motivated me to contribute back to this cherished community. Beyond the endless books, you'll often spot me engaging in Pilates sessions, indulging in Tasmania's diverse culinary scene (I particularly loves desserts, but those oysters are a must!), and eagerly planning spontaneous trips and invigorating bushwalks.

For me, Tasmania isn't merely a place of study—it's a vibrant town where the seriousness of learning blends seamlessly with thrilling adventures. Each passing day is an opportunity for me to absorb life's finest moments, and I’m thrilled to share this incredible journey with the other international students!

Hoang Lan Tran ( Lana)

I’m from Vietnam and  currently studying a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Tasmania. As a nursing student, I endeavour to promote healthy living and social connection through community events in Tasmania.

Having lived in the big smoke of Southeast Asia, I feel truly lucky to live in Tassie and enjoy the breathtaking nature and the fresh local produce from farmer's markets. On my free Saturday mornings, I loves going to the Harvest market and enjoying a cup of coffee and a cupcake. I’m excited to meet new friends and share my favourite spots around Launceston.

Please come and join me!

Ralfael Kwok

Hey, I'm a Bachelor of Business student majoring in Marketing at the University of Tasmania (UTAS) and I'm from Indonesia. Embarking on my academic journey in Tasmania itself has been nothing short of a captivating adventure. Nestled in the southern hemisphere's pristine landscapes, starting from the rugged mountains, serene lakes, and lush forests that create a backdrop that fuels both creativity and a sense of well-being.  Tasmania has not only provided me with a unique educational experience but has become my cherished home.

Thinh (Sarah) Truong

I'm Thinh (Sarah) Truong, a Master of Professional Accounting student at the University of Tasmania. I'm originally from Vietnam.

My journey to Tasmania was an unexpected yet heartwarming tale. Years ago, Tasmania was a distant dream captured only through the lens of photos sent by relatives. Surprisingly, a deep connection bloomed within me for this place, prompting me to take the leap. In 2023, I decided to forge ahead with my postgraduate studies, choosing Tasmania as the canvas for my next chapter.

Upon arriving here, I was greeted by an overwhelming sense of wonder. Tasmania isn't just peaceful; it's a haven of tranquility. The air is crisp, the azure beaches stretch endlessly, and the symphony of birds dancing freely along the shorelines is pure bliss. It's a place where studying and living blend seamlessly amidst this breathtaking environment.

I'm also very happy to be part of Study Tasmania Student Ambassador this year. I'm eagerly looking forward to sharing my unique experiences, both in life and work, and forming connections with incredible individuals from all the world. I believe that diversity and collaboration are the keys to success and growth.

In my free time, I like to express my creativity through drawing. I have drawn many pictures of the places I've visited and the things I've seen. I love to explore and discover new and impressive spots on this island. There's always something new and exciting to see and do here.

That's a little bit about me. I hope you enjoyed reading my bio and I can't wait to meet you all.

I’m a Vietnamese international student pursuing a Master's in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at the University of Tasmania. I chose Tasmania for a respite from city life. Amid the Covid lockdowns, Tasmania's geographic advantage provided a peaceful environment for personal and professional development. I was able to assimilate into the Tasmanian culture, appreciating the community's acceptance during my time at UTAS.

Having played various leadership roles before pursuing my Master's, I envision contributing to and growing my career in Tasmania, guided by the insights gained through the Vice Chancellor’s Leadership Program (VCLP).
