Tasmanian primary and secondary schools & colleges

Tasmania has a number of options for primary and secondary education, across Hobart, Launceston, Burnie & Devonport and regional centres. The Tasmanian Government runs primary schools (K-6), high schools (7-10) and colleges (11-12) across the state (the public education system) and many other schools at these grade levels are operated in the Catholic, Independent and Private schools sector.

Tasmanian Government Schools

If you are seeking to qualify for university, for a study abroad experience or short term study tour, Tasmanian Government Schools provide Australia’s most flexible High School program. You can choose from a wide variety of schools based on your interests, and you will be able to participate in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities and make lots of new friends.

Non Government schools (Independent, Catholic and Private)

Tasmania is home to many outstanding private and independent schools. These schools are dedicated to the individual needs of students, with personalized guidance offered to ensure that all children can excel in their chosen field of endeavour.

Options exist for boys only, girls only and co-educational education. Specialized extra-curricular activities are offered at all schools, including a range of sports and community activities. Many schools offer on campus boarding however homestay accommodation is also offered.
