My name is Rishini Dias and I came from one beautiful island to study in another. First and foremost, please do not be fooled by my initial quiet and reserved persona. According to tale, I am made of sugar, spice, and everything nice. The lack of "Chemical X" in Professor Utonium's lab prevented me from becoming the next power puff girl.
Due to the lack of superpowers, I have turned to cooking to help make society a better place. So, if you don't see me on campus trying to balance the balance sheets for the life of me or doing my society’s work, you will most likely find me in the kitchen cooking for my friends while “trying” not to burn the kitchen down.
I came to Tasmania in 2019, to pursue a Bachelors in Business at the University of Tasmania. At first, it was difficult for me to be thousands of miles away from home, family, and friends, as it is for most international students. However, I brought a piece of home with me, my twin brother, who was and always will be by my side cheering me on during the good times and supporting me during the bad, and fun fact: we are known as the "dependable twins” or the "twins from Sri Lanka".
Throughout the past three years Tasmania has presented us with numerous opportunities to step outside of our comfort zones and discover our true potentials, and I can confidently say that it has turned me into a better version of myself that I was unaware existed.
Apart from the beautiful skies and awe-inspiring nature, my favorite thing about Tasmania is its lovely community. The people are always welcoming and willing to go out of their way to help a fellow member out which makes it so much easier for international students like us to settle into an unknown environment. I was also fortunate to meet a group of people who makes Tassie feel like my home away from home and Uni life the best three years of my life!
